Taking down IV infusion 1

Mrs Brown, an insulin dependant diabetic on the surgical ward

The scenario

“I was doing a surgical night on call and the nurses bleeped from one of the surgical wards about Mrs Brown who had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy earlier that day.  She is normally an insulin-dependent diabetic and has been on a sliding scale since her operation. Her cannula has tissued in the last hour and they want to take down her sliding scale.  Her BM has been stable.”

Samantha, junior doctor
